Phase Two
The officer asked me to explain exactly what had happened.
I told him everything.
I didn’t exaggerate.
I didn’t insult Vanessa.
I simply described what I had seen and what I had felt when the glass struck me.
The second officer asked whether anyone else had witnessed it.
“Yes,” I said. “Everyone at the table.”
He nodded.
“Do you have any security cameras?”
I hesitated.
Then I remembered the small camera I had installed near the kitchen several months earlier.
I had originally bought it because packages had started disappearing from my porch.
It also happened to face the dining area.
“Yes,” I said. “I may have video.”
The officer looked at me.
“That could be important.”
While I was still being treated, Rachel called.
“Margaret, don’t go home yet.”
“I wasn’t planning to.”…
